Simple Ways to Get Your Family Moving Together Every Week

Walking, cycling and playing together make it easier for every member of the family to stay active.

Regular activity supports health at every age, and it is easier to keep up when the whole family does it together. It does not have to be a formal workout: walking, cycling, dancing in the living room or playing in the park all count.

The CDC recommends at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity a day for children and teens aged 6 to 17, and at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week for adults. Build up gradually from wherever you are today.

  • Take a family walk or bike ride after dinner.
  • Walk or cycle to school or the shops when it is safe.
  • Let each child pick the weekend activity in turn.

If anyone has a health condition or has been inactive for a long time, check with a doctor before starting something new.
