Your feet carry you through every day, yet they often get attention only when something hurts. A few minutes of daily care can help you spot small problems before they grow.

  • Check both feet every day for cuts, blisters, redness, swelling or changes in skin and nails.
  • Wash with mild soap and water, then dry well, especially between the toes.
  • Moisturize dry skin, but keep the spaces between your toes dry.
  • Trim toenails straight across and wear clean, dry socks that fit well.

People with diabetes or reduced feeling in their feet should be extra careful and check their feet every day. See a doctor or podiatrist about any wound that is slow to heal, signs of infection such as warmth, spreading redness or drainage, or foot pain that does not improve.
