Regular activity supports health at every age, and it is easier to keep up when the whole family does it together. It does not have to be a formal workout: walking, cycling, dancing in the living room or playing in the park all count.
The CDC recommends at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity a day for children and teens aged 6 to 17, and at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week for adults. Build up gradually from wherever you are today.
- Take a family walk or bike ride after dinner.
- Walk or cycle to school or the shops when it is safe.
- Let each child pick the weekend activity in turn.
If anyone has a health condition or has been inactive for a long time, check with a doctor before starting something new.
