Heart disease is a leading cause of death for men in many countries, yet many of the habits that protect the heart are simple and within reach. You do not have to change everything at once; steady progress counts.

  • Move regularly, for example with a brisk walk on most days.
  • Fill more of your plate with vegetables, fruit and whole grains.
  • Avoid smoking and keep alcohol within recommended limits.
  • Find out your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers.

It is easy to put off a checkup when you feel fine, but high blood pressure and high cholesterol often cause no symptoms. A simple check can tell you where you stand.

If you ever have chest pain, shortness of breath or sudden weakness, seek emergency care right away. For anything less urgent, talk to your doctor about a heart health check.
